Basic dental principles
Module Clinical propedeuticity

Academic Year 2023/2024 - Teacher: ANTONINO LO GIUDICE

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide an overview of the pathophysiological conditions of the oral cavity, as it is the first dental teaching module in the curriculum for CLMOPD students. Building upon the knowledge acquired in anatomy, histology, chemistry, and physics, various topics will be explored to offer students a comprehensive understanding of dental and stomatological pathologies, starting as early as the second year.

Particular attention will be given to the etiopathogenesis and epidemiology of dental caries and periodontal disease. Additionally, discussions will encompass occlusal relationships between dental elements in both dental arches and will touch upon temporomandibular joint dysfunctions. Dental embryology will be closely linked to potentially associated pathologies. Mechanisms differentiating pulpal pain from periapical pain will be thoroughly examined.

By the end of the course, students should demonstrate knowledge and comprehension regarding clinical assessment of major pathological conditions and the selection of appropriate diagnostic strategies.
